The world soccer TV guide

The network and the studio had been in preliminary talks with the two sides far apart, and they were never able to bridge the gap on the deal terms. The economics of TV movies and miniseries are challenging, which is why very few production companies take on such programs these days. That includes NBCs own studio, Universal TV, which would not produce NBCs longform projects, including Hillary. The Clinton mini, to be written by Courtney Hunt, already has become a lightning rod of controversy, with Republican National Committee voting today to to yank primary debates from NBC (and CNN, which has a Hillary Clinton documentary in the works) and NBC News Chief White House Correspondent Chuck Todd calling the mini a total nightmare for the news division. RNC chairman Reince Priebus i ndicated last weekend that the party wont boycott Fox News if sibling FtvS takes on producing Hillary.
Source:

Apple Buys Matcha, Possibly In An Attempt To Make Your TV More Awesome

For now, switching between shows in different apps -- like an episode of "House of Cards" on Netflix and an episode of "True Blood" on HBO Go -- requires several steps. And, of course, if you want to watch live TV, you have to get your television's remote and switch the input and the channel. Last month, a report in the Israeli business paper Calcalist said Apple was considering a purchase of PrimeSense , a company that builds sensors -- like the one found in the Xbox Kinect -- that allow people control devices with gestures. This prompted many observers to predict that a television from Apple would feature motion-control technology. Also last month, Jessica Lessin reported that Apple is developing ad-skipping technology , and the company would compensate the TV networks for any revenue lost with fewer people watching ads. After all, there's much more to building a new TV than content discovery, said Jonathan Gaw, a research manager at IDC, a technology research firm.
Source:

Can women break the antihero's hold on TV?

Less appealing is their tyrannical hold on the gold standard. When did the problematic protagonist become the necessary ingredient for dramatic excellence? GRAPHIC - 'Breaking Bad' to 'Justified': Killing off your favorite stars The short answer is the day David Chase brought Tony Soprano into the world. The long answer is when "Moby-Dick" began topping all those "greatest American novel" lists. Many forces have contributed to the renaissance of television but none more than HBO's decision to get into the original content business. "Sex and the City" was premium cable's first hit, a show that launched a thousand voice-overs and the post-feminist female candid, ambitious, sexually adventuresome but still lovable who would this site quickly infiltrate traditional broadcast TV. Dick Clark Prods. Boards Hollywood Film Awards

[Writer] Joss Whedons take on the Black Widow in The Avengers set up some hidden depths and intriguing back story, but she also remains one of the few Avengers who is yet to be given her own solo film, Huver pointed out. All of this is slow coming after Sigourney Weavers Ripley and Linda Hamiltons Sarah Conner laid the groundwork for female leads in action films beloved by both men and women. Whedon has reportedly assured fans that Widow will be a huge part in the next Avengers installment. And the long-standing argument that females dont have the same draw as their male counterparts is perhaps one that is waning, especially given the poor box office performance of a number of men-led summer blockbusters this year. Conversely, several of the lady-led action films have kicked box office butt. Jolies Salt grossed just under $400 million at the international box office off a $110 million production budget while The Tomb Raider series accumulated $431 million against its $213 million budget. The Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu franchise reboot of Charlies Angels amassed $523 million worldwide off its $110 million budget. More recently, the Jennifer Lawrence-led The Hunger Games took in $691 million against $78 million in production expenses.
Source:

Where did all of the female Hollywood super heroes go?

A lawyer for opponents of a controversial Hollywood skyscraper project criticized the developer and city officials for not disclosing important facts about an earthquake fault that may be directly underneath the site. The Millennium Hollywood project has come under increased scrutiny after the City Council approved the project 13 to 0 last month. The head of the California Geological Survey then told The Times the Hollywood faults path might go underneath the site of the towers and said his office would accelerate a block-by-block mapping to trace the faults path. Several geologists also told The Times they believed more extensive testing was required to make sure the project would be safe. The developer has since agreed to do more underground testing -- including digging a trench -- to determine whether the fault runs underneath the property. The new criticism centers on whether the environmental impact report for the project adequately disclosed all the facts about the fault.
Source:,0,3258562.story

But the head of the California Geological Survey, John Parrish, said in an interview there is now ample evidence that the fault is active and capable of producing a devastating earthquake. Parrish said strands of the Hollywood fault appear to run underneath the Millennium towers site near Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street but that further tests are needed for final confirmation. "This is a very big project that they're working on, and they should have the latest information that's available," he said. A spokesman for the New York-based developer, Brian Lewis, said geologists did testing at the city's direction and found no evidence of a fault at the site.
